The AMASE Artists

Ellen Karin Maehlum Ellen Karin Maehlum was educated at the National Academy of Fine Art in Bergen (1979-1984) and completed her post graduate work in printmaking at the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo. She has held a number of exhibitions in Norway and abroad since the mid 1980s. Her work has been acquired by several public collections, including the National Gallery in Oslo, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Oslo and the Arts Council, Norway. The AMASE exhibition included five selections from the series 'Geotrykk', which means Geo-Print.
Kjell Ove Storvik Kjell Ove Storvik works as a documentary photographer and has worked on several Arctic and Antarctic expeditions, as well as art projects and exhibitions. His photographs have been published in 'Time' magazine, National Geographic, GEO and other journals. He has provided the photographic illustrations for about 30 books as well as many exhibitions. His work with the AMASE team formed the centre piece of the exhibition, which included some stunning panoramic views of Svalbard, and many smaller photographs showing the scientists, rover, astronaut and engineers at work.
Eamonn Shaw Eamonn Shaw studied Fine Art and Design and his films, generative art and fine art prints have appeared in numerous group shows, and his work has been published and acclaimed by The Art Directors Club. His work on one of the AMASE expeditions resulted in several video installations that were presented at the exhibition. Eamonn says "Art is an ongoing and never ending process of cultural crystallization. Supersaturation of culture creates its pattern, intensity and physical manifestation. It precipitates out of discourse, research and AMASE expeditions. It is characterized by a sense of wonder and our will to explore. The work is a collection of observations that are derived from this interaction between art, science and the world before us."
