AMASE comes to Leeds

'Life on Mars' Events

  • Public lecture "How would you spot a 'Martian'? The Search for Life on Mars Brought Down to Earth"
  • Public lecture in Holy Trinity Church, Leeds Marilyn Fogel and Andrew Steele

This free event was presented by two of the AMASE Team, Andrew Steele and Marilyn Fogel. The talk focused on the search for life on Mars in general and on the AMASE field work in particular. In addition to the unconventional venue, Holy Trinity Church, Boar Lane, there was a further element of surprise when City of Leeds Organist, Simon Linley, played David Bowie's 'Life on Mars' as an introduction to the talk, much to the delight of the audience (photo below, centre).

The event attracted over 100 people, including the Lord Mayor, Mohammed Iqbal. Delegates from the Astrobiology Workshop were invited to a Reception at the Civic Hall after the talk, which was attended by the Lord Mayor and Leeds University Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Arthur (photo on right).
