The annual meeting of the IASPEI/IAVCEI Commission on “Volcano
Seismology and Acoustics” jointly organised with the 28th meeting of
the ESC working group on “Seismic phenomena associated with volcanic activity”
focussed this year on
“Automatic
detection, identification and classification of volcanic signals”
This was also the kick-off meeting of a new initiative of the
IAVCEI/IASPEI Commission, led by Corentin Caudron (France), Benoit Taisne
(Singapore), Roberto Carniel (Italy) and Jurgen Neuberg (UK), to investigate
new ways to process monitoring signals in an automated way, employing concepts
of machine learning.
53 participants originating from 15 different
countries (plus 8 guests with an extraordinary age span) attended this joint
meeting. 50 scientific talks and posters were
presented over three days and two memorable, full-day excursions were organised
leading to Teide volcano, the Roques de Garcia, several peripheral cones, a
“Galleria” and the Teide Astronomical Observatory.
