Workshop Title:
Models for tremor and seismo-volcanic events
Akrotiri, Santorini
We tried to find a place where we could stay all together, in order to reach the objectives of our workshop, which takes place not only during, the official talks, but also (or even especially) during meals and informal conversations.
We found a suitable hotel where we stayed and had our sessions: Hotel Goulielmos Faros (pictured above).
The traditionally styled Hotel is located on the South-West side of Santorini, just 5 minutes walk away from the village of Akrotiri. It overlooks the caldera and offers you a breathtaking view of Santorini and associated
islands. The hotel is located in a quiet place, ideal for a scientific workshop and... yes, there is also a beach nearby...
Akrotiri is the most important archaeological site on the island, with the most important prehistoric settlement of the Eastern Mediterranean; it is also known as the Pompei of the Aegean Sea.
Participants and abstracts
A full Participants list is available.
Titles and abstracts of the talks presented during the workshop are available here.
Conference Fee
Just like in all previous editions, NO FEE was required to participate. The costs were therefore be limited to travel, food and lodging. We have chosen a cheap hotel so that also students and young researchers could participate without any economical problem.
Excursions and Field Trips
We meet at volcanoes in order to visit them! Thanks to the great effort of Tom Pfeiffer and the collaboration of Floyd Warren McCoy, we organized several field excursions. A description of most of them can be read following this link.
General Information
If you want to look for more information about the island of Santorini,
including geography, logistics, weather and food, you can begin at www.santorini.net. The photo above comes directly from that site.
Geological and volcanological information: Santorini is one of the Decade Volcanoes. If you are looking for a good starting point for Santorini scientific resources (and not only), please navigate to Tom Pfeiffer's Santorini homepage. Tom was one of our participants, and the main collaborator
in the organization of field excursions.
