Biography

Sarah obtained a PhD in Sea Spray Aerosol at the University of Leeds in 2006, she was working on the development of the CLASP instrument is now used to measure high temporal resolution aerosol particle number size and concentration. Since her gaining her PhD she has continued to work at the University of Leeds as a PDRA.

In October 2006, Sarah joined the UK SOLAS SEASAW project, which included two North Atlantic cruises. The SEASAW project was addressing the issue of both trace gas transfer velocities and the sea-spray aerosol source function. The first UK SOLAS cruise, D313, was conducted in November 2006 joint with the UK SOLAS DOGEE cruise and a second cruise, D317, for SEASAW was conducted in March/April 2007. The diary from D317 can be viewed online including the cruise track and a number of photographs.

Sarah is primarily an observational scientist with her main research interests within the marine boundary layer turbulent fluxes and in particular the production sea spray aerosol. She has extensive experience in the field having worked on both land based and ship based campaigns all over the world from the central Arctic Ocean to the Antarctic Peninsular and the Outer Banks of North Carolina to Taiwan and Japan.
Since the SEASAW project Sarah has been involved in many field studies a selection are mentioned below and more detial can be found on her personal home page. 

ASCOS - (Arctic Summer Cloud Ocean Study) - a study of aerosol and clouds and their role in the Artic climate system. Sarah participated in  the ASCOS field project on Board the Icebreaker Oden in July/August/September 2008.

SO-GasEX - (Southern Ocean Gas Exchange Experiment) - conducted in the Southern Ocean in February 2008. Two CLASP units were deployed, one on  the University of Miami ASIS buoy and the other with the NOAA flux system on the foremast of the Ronald Brown.
