The basalts indicated on this map all show important relationships to various
faults. The Homs Basalt, apparently offset by the Yammouneh Fault, actually
banks onto it. The distribution of the basalt was controlled by the tectonic
landscape. Similarly, the Mechki Basalt erupted onto tectonically influenced
landscape, filling valleys. It seals the Hasbaya Fault. In contrast the Golan
Basalt is offset by the transform system in southern Lebanon - northern Israel.
All the basalts were dated using the K-Ar method in Leeds. The original
data are presented in Butler et al. (1998).
