Examples of Basil Applied to Geological
Problems
The examples listed below illustrate
a number of geological problems to which basil has been successfully applied.
All of these problems are two-dimensional. In some cases the plane-strain
assumption is used. Otherwise the 2-D layer is treated as a thin
viscous sheet (similar to plane-stress, but including the effect of buoyancy).
The selection of diagrams provides a sample of the kind of graph that may
be produced by the sybil program, using a menu-driven graphical user interface
that permits great flexibility.
