Annual Workshop 2002

International Space Station Photo of Montserrat (North is down). The smoke of the active volcano is drifted as usual towards west (right). The high resolution space photo shows many details: the delta built-up by the pyroclastic flows rolling down the Tar River Valley (left), the pyroclastic flows covering the closed W.H. Bramble Airport (lower left), the lost town of Plymouth (right, masked by the volcano smoke). NASA Photo, caption by Marco Fulle.

Accommodation and Location

Viewpoint Hotel

Vue Pointe Hotel, Montserrat

As usual, the workshop was held in a quiet place, where all the participant stayed together for the whole week, giving plenty of time for formal and especially informal discussions. This year we chose:

VUE POINTE HOTEL
MONTSERRAT, OLD TOWNE
TEL: 1 664 491 5210
FAX: 1 664 491 4813
e-mail: vuepointe@candw.ag

Unfortunately, in late 2002 the Vue Pointe Hotel had to be evacuated as the area is threatened by pyroclastic flows coming down Belham Valley.

Field Trips

Two field trips allowed us to see the unique landscapes of an island recently covered by pyroclastic and mud flows.
